What is Gourmet?

 Sweet Day Gourmet Baking Mixes

When we were trying to come up with a name for our business, there was one major element that we wanted to communicate to the world. We wanted our company's name to reflect the quality of the products that we produce. It was, and still is the most important aspect of our business. We are a GOURMET dessert mix company. The word Gourmet absolutely had to be in the name.

Definition of GOURMET

a connoisseur of fine food and drink; epicure.

of or characteristic of a gourmet,
    especially in involving or purporting
    to involve high-quality or exotic
    ingredients and skilled preparation:
    gourmet meals; gourmet cooking.
      elaborately equipped for the
      preparation of fancy, specialized,
or exotic meals: a gourmet kitchen.

Unfortunately, the word "gourmet" has been seriously misused and overused in the food industry lately.  We didn't realize just how much until we began doing some competitive research. Everything from cheap, mass-produced cake mixes to dog biscuits is being defined as "gourmet".  This confuses the consumer, and creates a general mistrust of organizations who claim to be Gourmet; it's just not fair for the true gourmet companies and products out there.

        What makes us Gourmet?
This is actually a question that we get asked quite a bit at the local gift shows we attend when promoting our dessert mixes. The answer is simple.

        • First, we use the highest quality ingredients in all of our products, including World Class French and Belgian cacao & chocolate (Valrhona), (Cacao-Barry), (Callebaut), Madagascar  Bourbon Vanilla (Nielsen Massey), and other premium spices; products you'd find in the finest restaurants and bakeries.
        • Second, we have a European style dessert philosophy – strong in flavor, and not super sweet. This is important to us because it makes our products different. We are very focused on the true flavor of the ingredients, not on the just the sweetness of the dessert.
        • Third, we make all of our mixes in small batches by hand. This gives us a better handle on the quality control of our process.

We have confidence in the name Sweet Day Gourmet. Although baking mixes aren't typically considered to be a real gourmet product, we have no doubt that ours is truly, by the definition of the word, GOURMET.
